Use Planner modes and date navigation

Planner modes decide how much time you are reviewing at once. Use Day for execution, Week for near-term coordination, and Month or Year for broader planning context.

Planner modes

ModeBest for
DayWriting today’s plan, daily updates, decisions, and notes.
WeekPlanning a short delivery window and reviewing upcoming days.
MonthReviewing work across a month and spotting timing gaps.
YearCapturing long-range planning context and high-level milestones.

Move between dates

  1. Use the date button to open the date picker.
  2. Choose the date or range anchor you want.
  3. Use previous and next controls to move by the active mode.
  4. Use Today to return to the current day.

Tip: Previous and next follow the active mode. In Day mode they move by one day; in Week mode they move by one week; in Month and Year modes they move by that range.

Read Day mode

Day mode focuses on entries for the selected day.

  • Empty days show an Add all-day entry action.
  • Existing entries can have insert controls before or after them.
  • Timed entries show their time range.
  • All-day entries stay tied to the day without a specific time.

Read Week mode

Week mode groups the selected week by day.

  • Each day can be expanded and reviewed separately.
  • Days with entries show their entry count.
  • Empty days can show a write action when you have create access.
  • The period plan area appears above the day groups when the week needs one overall note.

Read Month and Year modes

Month and Year modes show calendar-style maps so you can spot where planning activity exists.

  • Days with entries show previews and counts.
  • Tag and mention indicators can appear when entries contain connected context.
  • Selecting a day opens that date in Day mode.
  • The period plan area appears above the map when the month or year needs one overall note.

Use compact controls on small screens

On smaller screens, the same Planner controls are still available but may be condensed.

  • Open the mode menu to choose Day, Week, Month, or Year.
  • Use the date button to open the date picker.
  • Use the visible previous, Today, and next controls to move through time.
  • Open a day when the month or year map is too compact for detailed editing.

Troubleshooting

The mode you need is not visible

  • Cause: On smaller screens, Planner hides the full mode toggle behind a mode menu.
  • Resolution: Open the mode menu and choose Day, Week, Month, or Year.

Previous and next move more than one day

  • Cause: Navigation follows the active mode.
  • Resolution: Switch to Day mode when you want previous and next to move one day at a time.

A day looks empty in Month or Year mode

  • Cause: The day may not contain entries, or entries may be outside the selected Planner.
  • Resolution:
    1. Open the day.
    2. Check whether the entry exists in Day mode.
    3. Confirm the active Planner and Space.

A period plan is not shown in Day mode

  • Cause: Period plans belong to Week, Month, or Year mode.
  • Resolution: Switch back to the matching broader mode to review or edit the period plan.

FAQ

Which mode should I start with?

Start with Day mode for daily planning. Switch to Week or Month when you need a wider planning review.

Does changing mode move my entries?

No. Changing mode only changes what the Planner canvas shows. Entries stay on their original dates.

Do Month and Year modes replace Calendar?

No. Month and Year modes help you review written Planner entries. Use Calendar when you need dated tasks, Team Calendar visibility, or connected provider events.
