Update Workspace settings safely

Workspace settings control shared identity and owner-level actions for the active Workspace. Review the impact before changing a setting that can affect every member.

Use Workspace settings to:

  1. Update the Workspace avatar, name, and timezone.
  2. Review the current Workspace owner.
  3. Transfer ownership to another member.
  4. Archive, unarchive, or delete the Workspace when the owner action is available.
  5. Troubleshoot hidden, disabled, or unsaved settings.

Terms you may see:

  • Workspace settings are shared and can affect every member.
  • Owner-only actions are intentionally restricted because they can transfer control or remove access.
  • App Settings are separate and control app areas, task fields, CRM options, point values, and time tracking.
  • Member roles still control who can view, edit, delete, or manage work.

For a field reference, see Understand Workspace settings fields and owner actions.

Before you start

  • You must be the Workspace owner for avatar, name, timezone, transfer, archive, unarchive, and delete actions.
  • You must be online to save shared Workspace changes.
  • Some actions may be hidden if the current plan or Workspace state does not allow them.

How Workspace details apply

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Open General or the Workspace settings area.
  3. Review avatar, name, timezone, owner, and Danger Zone actions.
  4. Update one setting at a time.
  5. Confirm the result in the header, Workspace selector, or affected page.

Expected outcome: The Workspace identity and owner-level state are updated intentionally, with no accidental access or recovery impact.

Rename or rebrand a Workspace

  1. Confirm the active Workspace in the header.
  2. Open Settings > General.
  3. Update the Workspace name or avatar.
  4. Wait for the update to finish.
  5. Ask another member to refresh if they still see the old name or image.

Change the Workspace timezone

  1. Open Settings > General.
  2. Select the timezone field.
  3. Choose the intended timezone.
  4. Confirm date-sensitive pages such as calendars, reminders, task dates, and dashboards still make sense.

Transfer ownership safely

  1. Confirm the next owner is an active Workspace member.
  2. Open Danger Zone.
  3. Expand Transfer ownership.
  4. Select the next owner.
  5. Confirm the action.
  6. Ask the new owner to refresh and check owner-only controls.

Archive, unarchive, or delete a Workspace

  1. Open Danger Zone.
  2. Choose the action that matches the intent.
  3. Read the confirmation text.
  4. Confirm only when the impact is clear.
  5. Expect the app to move away from the Workspace after archive or delete actions.

Troubleshooting

A Workspace field is disabled

  • Symptom: You can see a field but cannot change it.
  • Cause: The action may require the Workspace owner, an online connection, or a supported Workspace state.
  • Resolution:
    1. Confirm you are online.
    2. Confirm you are the Workspace owner.
    3. Ask the current owner to make the change or transfer ownership.

Danger Zone is missing

  • Symptom: Transfer, archive, unarchive, or delete actions are not visible.
  • Cause: The action may be hidden by ownership, plan availability, or Workspace state.
  • Resolution:
    1. Confirm the active Workspace.
    2. Confirm you are the owner.
    3. Ask an owner/admin to confirm whether the action is available.

A Workspace name or avatar does not update for other users

  • Symptom: You see the new value, but another member sees the old value.
  • Cause: Their app may not have synced yet.
  • Resolution:
    1. Ask the member to refresh.
    2. Confirm their connection is online.
    3. Recheck after sync completes.

FAQ

Should I archive or delete a Workspace?

Archive when the Workspace may be needed later. Delete only when the Workspace should be removed and the recovery impact is understood.

Can a non-owner change the Workspace name?

No. Shared Workspace identity fields are owner-only in the current settings page.

Are App Settings controlled here?

No. App Settings are a separate settings page for app areas, task fields, CRM options, point values, and time tracking.
