Search and create work from Command Center
Command Center is a quick-access surface for searching commands and creating supported items without manually navigating to each feature first. It is useful when you know the action you want to take, but want to stay in the current context.
Command Center is available on desktop. On mobile, use the floating Quick Task button to capture a task and the floating Chat button to open conversations.
Use Command Center to:
- Choose the Workspace scope for the command.
- Search supported commands.
- Quickly create items such as tasks, docs, lists, folders, contacts, companies, and whiteboards when available.
- Open supported records from command search results.
Before you start
- The item type you want to create must be available to your account.
- Some commands may be hidden by permissions, Workspace settings, or plan availability.
- Use a desktop-sized screen to access Command Center.
How Command Center works
- On desktop, open Command Center from the floating command button or keyboard shortcut.
- Confirm the Workspace scope.
- Type a command or search phrase.
- Select the command or result.
- Complete any required fields in the opened dialog or page.
Expected outcome: You can start common actions from one place while keeping the correct Workspace context.
Open Command Center
- Select the floating command button.
- Use the keyboard shortcut shown in the tooltip when available.
Choose the command scope
- Open Command Center.
- Review the Workspace selector near the top.
- Change the Workspace if the command should run somewhere else.
- Confirm that the selected Workspace is where the new item or searched result should belong.
Search for a command
- Click or tap the command input.
- Type the action you want, such as
task,doc,list,folder,contact, orcompany. - Review the suggested commands.
- Select the command that matches your goal.
Create work from Command Center
- Open Command Center.
- Choose the correct Workspace scope.
- Search for the item type you want to create.
- Select the create command.
- Complete the dialog or page that opens.
Troubleshooting
Command Center is not visible
- Symptom: You cannot find the floating command button.
- Cause: You may be on mobile, the current desktop page may not support Command Center, or the app may be in a state where floating actions are hidden.
- Resolution:
- On mobile, use the floating Quick Task or Chat action instead.
- On desktop, open a work area such as Collections, Lists, Dashboards, Goals, Docs, Whiteboards, Automations, Reminders, or Timesheets.
- Check the lower corner of the app.
- Refresh the page if the button should be visible but is not.
A command does not appear
- Symptom: Searching for an item type or action shows no useful command.
- Cause: The command may use a different term, or your account may not have access.
- Resolution:
- Try a broader term such as
task,doc,list,folder,contact, orcompany. - Confirm the selected Workspace.
- Ask a Workspace owner or admin to confirm permissions.
- Try a broader term such as
A created item opens in the wrong Workspace
- Symptom: The created task, doc, list, or record is not where you expected.
- Cause: The command scope may have been set to a different Workspace.
- Resolution:
- Open Command Center again.
- Check the Workspace selector before choosing a command.
- Move or recreate the item in the correct Workspace if needed.
FAQ
Is Command Center the same as Search?
No. Search is focused on finding existing work. Command Center can search commands and start create actions from one place.
Can Command Center complete the entire action for me?
No. Command Center starts the action. You still review and submit the form, dialog, or page that opens.
